Lyrics: Dear Dolly, I remember When you begged me not to take your man Guess I should've listened But back then, I didn't understand He had that silver tongue Eyes bright like Tennessee skies He said forever, but forever was a lie Thought I won, but what did I gain? A heart full of trouble and a love full of pain Dolly, Dolly, Dolly, Dolly, Wish you'd known just what I see, His charm's a lie, he made us cry, You're better now you're free. Dolly, Dolly, Dolly, Dolly, Thought he was gold, but he's fool's gold, I see— You dodged a bullet, girl, Love, Jolene. I spent nights wonderin' If you knew just who he was inside That charm, it covers darkness Every sweet word’s got a bitter side Now I’m stuck here holdin' The truth you never saw Thought I stole him, but I just took your fall Yeah, I won the battle, but lost the war Wish I knew back then what I’m payin’ for Dolly, Dolly, Dolly, Dolly, Wish you'd known just what I see, His charm's a lie, he made us cry, You're better now you're free. Dolly, Dolly, Dolly, Dolly, Thought he was gold, but he's fool's gold, I see— You dodged a bullet, girl, Love, Jolene. If I could take it back, Lord knows I would But maybe you'll forgive me now, Knowin’ you ended up good Dolly, Dolly, Dolly, Dolly, Wish you'd known just what I see, His charm's a lie, he made us cry, You're better now you're free. Dolly, Dolly, Dolly, Dolly, Thought he was gold, but he's fool's gold, I see— You dodged a bullet, girl, Love, Jolene.
